🏃♂️ What Happened
- The Chief Minister’s Youth Sports Festival, called “Ithu Namma Attam 2026”, was recently inaugurated in Tirupattur, Sivaganga district, Tamil Nadu.
- The event was flagged off by K R Periyakaruppan, Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Co-operation, on Sunday as part of the state’s efforts to boost grassroots sports.
🎯 Who Can Participate
- Open to youth aged 16–35, including school and college students, the general public, and government employees.
🏅 Games & Events Included
Competitions are being held at the local panchayat union level across the district (and statewide in TN) in:
- Athletics
- Kabaddi
- Handball
- Carrom
- Tug-of-war
- Street cricket
…and other traditional and popular games.
👥 Participation & Response
- The event saw strong turnout, especially from rural communities. Women showed particular interest in tug-of-war, while men were enthusiastic about street cricket.
- Persons with disabilities also have separate competitions (e.g., the 100 m race for various disability categories).
🏆 Advancement & Rewards
- A total of 660 winners from this round will advance to district-level competitions.
- Prize money ranges from ₹1,000 up to ₹75,000, with certificates awarded to winners.
